Every woman wants her hormones to be in balance, because that’s when we feel our best. There are a number of foods that can really mess up our hormones. If you eliminate these foods from your diet, or eat less, you will feel much better.

NON -ORGANIC FOOD

There are people who find organic food expensive, but it is sometimes more expensive to get our hormones back in balance. Think of the specialists you need for this and also herbs and supplements. Much of our food is produced in huge quantities, quantity is many times more important than quality. During its production, many hormones, antibiotics, PCBs and mercury are added. These are all disruptive chemicals that really mess up our hormones like estrogen and progesterone. If you suffer from your monthly cycle, it is therefore highly recommended to eat (more) organic food

SUGAR

Sugar is perhaps the biggest culprit of all hormone-disrupting foods. Sugar leads to peaks of the hormone insulin and this can make you feel quite uncomfortable. The body is satisfied with a balanced intake of sugar, proteins and fats and is not waiting for disruptive peaks. A healthy body can switch back and forth between sugar and fat metabolism. And when you eat too much sugar, something goes completely wrong. Your body has a hard time processing the sugars and cannot deal with a good hormone balance. This can confuse your estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone.

WHITE BREAD

In fact, white bread only causes damage to all the hormones in our body. Gluten combined with sugars increase the chance of inflammatory reactions in the body, which in turn puts stress on our adrenal glands, thyroid and more. The pituitary gland and the hypothalamus (the main regulators of our hormone balance) can become quite disrupted by eating white bread (gluten and sugars). And if this is the case, glands or organs are also less able to produce hormones or initiate other actions. So it’s like interrupting a well-functioning vicious circle.

DAIRY

Dairy can upset the hormonal balance in several ways. For example, it can irritate the intestines, or cause other inflammatory reactions in the body. For example, acne is a signal from your body that it can’t actually tolerate dairy. If people suffer from a pimpled skin, it is advisable to leave dairy products for a certain period of time. Milk contains the growth hormone IGF-. An excessive intake of this causes inflammation and a spike in insulin, which causes the liver to produce even more growth hormone. This can lead to an increased risk of diabetes and elevated triglycerides (fat in your bloodstream).

ALCOHOL

Drinking alcohol hinders our brain, which leads to a disruption of your hypothalamus and pituitary gland. (the parts of your brain that tell your body when to make the hormones). Our brains are organized so precisely that even a temporary disruption of their production can have unpleasant consequences. For example, alcohol reduces testosterone production, leading to lower energy levels. It increases insulin secretion and causes blood sugar deregulation. In addition, drinking alcohol regularly can increase cortisol levels, which can lead to more belly fat and less ability to deal with stress.

SOY

Soy can harm estrogen because it mimics estrogen (phytoestrogen) and therefore blocks normal estrogen by binding to receptors. And also disrupts other hormones, as a result of increased estrogen and decreasing testosterone. Common symptoms of too much estrogen in women include irregular periods, swelling and tenderness in breasts, unable to lose weight, trouble sleeping, mood swings and low energy levels. Soy is also one of the most genetically modified crops, meaning it’s loaded with toxic pesticides that can further lead to hormonal imbalance.
